Spotlight on...Sharon Wenn

Continuing our support of International Women in Engineering Day this week, our latest Spotlight article features Sharon Wenn, Mechanical Engineer here at Arc Partnership.

Sharon has worked as a mechanical engineer since 1991, first working for Nottinghamshire County Council and moving over to Arc Partnership when the joint venture was established in 2016.

Throughout her career Sharon has worked on a series of multi-million pound projects, that provide services to the people of Nottinghamshire. She loves to have a happy client and to provide a building that is exactly what they want.

She sums up what she does as:

Sharon Wenn
I design a warm, nicely ventilated building, that does what it is supposed to do and keep an eye on every detail, such as water that actually comes out of the taps. You won’t notice I’ve been there, but if everything is working, you know I’ve done my job!

Throughout her career Sharon has worked on a series of multi-million pound projects, that provide services to the people of Nottinghamshire. She loves to have a happy client and to provide a building that is exactly what they want.

When she’s not being an engineer, she loves to be outside, away from technology. Working in the garden, watching a bit of rugby or going on holiday. She loves older buildings, ones that have character and are cosy with a bit of quirkiness.

Sharon doesn’t leave her role completely behind at work – she’s recently renovated her house, from fitting a kitchen to tiling and wallpapering, although she did leave the plumbing to the day job!

She’s appeared on a live recording of a pop concert, and been in the audience for children’s game show, met Toyah and had lots of adventures, some of which scare her now…like paragliding!

Throughout her career Sharon’s enjoyed all of the projects she’s worked on, so doesn’t have a favourite. She feels that Arc are different to other practices because we’re multi-disciplinary and can see a job from inception through to handover. Having a local authority background means the team has a different outlook; they’re not driven by profit, but by delivering sound, appropriate affordable, low maintenance, long lasting jobs that are also visually striking.

She loves working with the rest of the Arc team, working on a variety of jobs with lots of different people and meeting challenges with the support of her colleagues.

Sharon is a valued member of our team and we all look forward to working with her on many more projects in the future.

Education
The Lanes Primary School
When The Lanes needed three new classrooms, it planned to build a separate block. We delivered a great alternative, maintaining the original school design and keeping everyone under one roof.
