Arc Partnership's commitment to Carbon Literacy
Arc Partnership is a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE, dedicated to delivering exceptional property services that connect communities with their environment throughout Nottinghamshire, the East Midlands, and beyond. Our integrated, customer-focused team drives regeneration and economic growth by managing land and property portfolios that prioritise efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Prior to embarking on our Carbon Literacy journey, our organisation, Arc Partnership, recognised a significant gap in our approach to environmental sustainability. While we were committed to delivering outstanding property services, our awareness and actions regarding carbon management required further investment and our team identified a need for a cohesive strategy.
This awareness demand led us to explore the impact of our operations on carbon emissions, revealing the need for a more transparent and accountable approach. Our decision to adopt Carbon Literacy training was driven by the desire to align with Nottinghamshire County Council's vision for a healthier, greener Nottinghamshire and to ensure that our operations and supply chains met the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
During the Carbon Literacy training, we made it a priority to engage every member of our team. We aimed for full participation by ensuring that all staff members, regardless of their roles, were trained and certified. To create meaningful personal and group actions, we encouraged collaborative discussions where employees could share their ideas and commit to practical steps toward carbon reduction. The training process, while comprehensive, presented challenges, particularly in maintaining consistent engagement and ensuring that the content resonated with all participants. We overcame these obstacles by incorporating real-life case studies and tailoring the training to reflect the specific impacts of our projects, making the material more relevant and compelling.
Since completing the Carbon Literacy training, our organisation has seen substantial positive changes. Staff morale has improved as employees feel more empowered and aligned with our environmental goals, contributing to a more engaged and motivated workforce.
Sustainability was chosen as one of our organisational values through a staff engagement workshop at our staff conference in May 2024.
The positive impact on our operations not only aligns with our core values but also strengthens our partnerships within the D2N2 region. Moving forward, we plan to maintain this momentum by continuously integrating Carbon Literacy into our operations and exploring new opportunities for collaboration with other organisations committed to environmental stewardship.
To demonstrate our commitment to improving the environment we live in, we developed a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan. This plan details our current strategies for managing carbon and sets clear, measurable goals for the future, ensuring we remain accountable for our environmental impact.
